Mary Ann Marshall Bailey

Mary Ann Marshall Bailey (1804-1895) was the fourth and youngest child--and the only daughter--of John and Catharina Truby Rohrer Marshall.  She was born in the Rohrer-Marshall Tavern in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.  Her parents died on the Ohio frontier in 1806, when she was 21 months old.  She was reared by her godmother--her mother's sister, for whom she was named--Mary Ann "Polly" Truby Hovey.  Aunt Hovey and her husband, Dr. Simeon Hovey, of Perry Township (now Hovey Township), Armstrong County, Pennsylvania . . . Title Page with Signatures -- Bailey Family Bible

A hearty, deep-felt thanks to Sue Neubert, a great-great granddaughter of Mary Ann Marshall Bailey, for generously sharing the many family treasures she has kept from the Bailey and Cooper Families of Parker, Pennsylvania.  Sue's mother, Sarah Cooper Avey, was an avid family historian--click on her name for more about her genealogical gifts to our extended family.  Sue, who is a writer, has contributed several  family pieces to our occasional newsletter and to this website.   See below for a photo of Sue and Dale at the shore in 2006--and click here for a photo of their entire family on the same family vacation.

Katharine Ann Bailey (1841-1918) was known also as "Kate" or "Kitty".  She kept an album from about 1858-1863, in which friends and family members wrote their good wishes and asked to be remembered.  The above sample page was written on 14 October 1858 by her older brother, Simeon Hovey Bailey (1837-1894).  The Bailey Family were living in Prospect, Butler County, Pennsylvania at the time. In 1865, Kate married Robert Balph (1840-1904) in Kittanning.  The Balph family would make their home in Parker City.

Mary Marshall Purvis Robinson (1870-1964)

Mary Marshall Purvis Robinson (1870-1964) was named after her grandmother, Mary Marshall Bailey.  She was the daughter of Mary Ellen Bailey (1839-1918) and Joseph Logan Purvis (1838-1907) of Butler, Pennsylvania.  She married a half-second cousin, William Ernest "Ernie" Robinson (1873-1962); Catharina Truby Rohrer Marshall was their conmmon ancestor.  The Robinsons made their home in a typlcal western Pennsylvania farm house, on the hill just to the south of present-day Robinson Chapel.  A brick road still can be seen leading to what remains of their home.  They married in their mid-30s and had no children.  They lie buried side by side in the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery plot of Ernie's parents, Elisha and Caroline Truby Robinson--also second cousins.
